What Is Grade / GPA?
A Grade Point Average (GPA) is a standardized number used by high schools and universities to evaluate a student's overall academic performance. A GPA calculator helps you track your current standing and plan for the future.
The Standard 4.0 Scale
This tool uses the standard, unweighted 4.0 scale utilized by most academic institutions:
- A: 4.0 points (Excellent)
- B: 3.0 points (Good)
- C: 2.0 points (Average)
- D: 1.0 point (Below Average)
- F: 0.0 points (Failing)
Note: Your GPA is "weighted" by the number of credit hours a course is worth. An 'A' in a 4-credit science lab affects your GPA much more than an 'A' in a 1-credit physical education class.
Target GPA Planning
In addition to calculating your current GPA, this tool features a "Required Grade" mode. By entering your current GPA and a target GPA you want to reach, the calculator will tell you exactly what grades you need to earn in your upcoming classes to hit your goal.
How To Use the Grade / GPA Calculator
- Choose mode: Calculate GPA or Grade needed for target GPA.
- For GPA: add courses with letter grade and credits; review cumulative GPA.
- For required grade: enter current GPA, current credits, target GPA, and new course credits.
