What this floor tile calculator calculates

A 12 × 12 ft room is 144 ft². Twelve-inch square tiles cover 1 ft² each, so the base count is 144 tiles.

Formula

Room area ÷ tile coverage per tile × (1 + waste percent) = tiles; divide by box coverage and round up.

Worked example

At 10% layout waste, 144 square tiles become 159 tiles. If a box covers 15 ft², the order is 10 boxes.

Ordering decision

Diagonal layouts, patterns, room offsets, and the box's stated coverage change the final carton count.
