What this roofing squares calculator calculates
A 20 × 30 ft plan roof at a 6/12 pitch has 670.8 ft² of sloped area before waste, or 6.71 roofing squares.
Formula
Plan area × pitch factor = sloped area; sloped area × (1 + waste) ÷ 100 = squares; squares × bundle rate = bundles.
Worked example
With 10% waste, 670.8 ft² becomes 737.9 ft², or 7.38 squares. At 3 bundles per square, order 23 bundles.
Ordering decision
Valleys, hips, ridges, starters, flashing, underlayment, and the shingle's stated bundle coverage need separate checks.
