Sleep Cycle Calculator

Find optimal bed and wake times based on 90-minute sleep cycles.

Sleep Cycle Calculator calculator

Sleep cycles are ~90 minutes. Waking at the end of a cycle can help you feel more rested. Enter when you want to wake; we suggest a bed time (including time to fall asleep).

Go to bed by: 10:45 PM

5 cycles × 90 min = 450 min sleep (+ 15 min to fall asleep). Wake at 6:30 AM.

How To Use

  1. Enter the time you want to wake (e.g. 6:30 or 6:30 AM).
  2. Set how long it usually takes you to fall asleep (e.g. 15 min).
  3. Choose number of 90-minute cycles (4-6).
  4. Review suggested bed time so you wake at the end of a cycle.

What Is Sleep Cycle?

A sleep cycle is roughly 90 minutes and includes light sleep, deep sleep, and REM. Waking at the end of a cycle (in lighter sleep) can help you feel more refreshed than waking in the middle of deep sleep. This calculator takes your desired wake time and suggests when to go to bed based on a chosen number of cycles (e.g. 5 cycles = 7.5 hours of sleep) plus time to fall asleep. It is a planning aid only; actual sleep quality depends on many factors.
